University of Connecticut Assistive Technology Oral History Project

Cheryl Volkman

Date: January 28-30, 2010

Cheryl's interview tells an extremely interesting story of the humble birth of  what became AbleNet. She describes the early days and the volunteers that were so helpful. Then came the idea that this could become a company and the story continues up to the celebration of the first 25 years of AbleNet.

AbleNet now has more that one thousand devices sold worldwide and the company now an ESOP (Employee  Stock Ownership Plan).

We've only provided a brief snippet of the very earliest involvement of Cheryl in the disability field. However, we suggest that you download the entire transcript.

This is a story that should be shared and saved!

Snippet 1: "Tell us how you and a few of your friends were able to build AbleNet."
